Efforts for women empowerment by KVK,
Sindhudurg |

In Sindhudurg
district women population is dominating the male counterpart. The literacy
rate of the district is also high. Majority of farming operation are also
performed by women only. Considerering the need of cooperation among women
and their capacity development, Krishi Vigyan Kendra started working in for
women empowerment since 2000. The following are the achievements. |

of 20 women each ) in Kankavali & Vaibhavwadi Tehsils of Sindhududurg

Dairy Development |
|
 |
KVK has developed dairy zone at village
Kalambisth & Sangeli in Sawantwadi tehasil & marketing of milk is done
in coordination’s with Gokul Dudh Sang, Kolhapur. |
 |
Special guidance given to farmers for
selection & purchase of Murrha- buffaloes from Jind district of Haryana
state in cooperation with scientist of Gokul Dudh Sangh. |
 |
Special emphasis has been given on green
fodder production minimizing the cost of milk production, clean milk
production, mastiis testing, heat detection and pregnancy diagnosis etc. |
 |
Dairy farmer’s workshop and arranged to
enhance milk production in the dairy zone. |
 |
Frequent visit were carried out to the
zone & feedback regarding milk production, animal health status was
taken. |

Animal Health camp: |
|
|
Animal Health camp were conducted in the
different areas of the district regularly & provided medication, treatment &
surgical intervention to the animals of the areas. |

Poultry Activity:
|
|
|
KVK is supplying day old chicks to the farmers
since last 3 years on mass scale. Deshi breeds like Giriraja, Hitcari,
Nirbhik, Kalingabrown, Kadaknath are being supplied to the farmers on the
basis of 2 months advance booking. Around 50,000 chicks are supplied to the
farmers till date in the district. Near about 25 villages in the district
are covered so far. 25 regular and 50 seasonal units are established and so
far 75 farmers are benefited by this activity. |

Quails Farming: |
|
|
For last 2 years KVK is also promoting quails
farming activity in the district and it is supported by supply of 2 & 3
weeks old birds to the farmers. Near about 15,000 chicks have been supplied
to the farmers in last 2 years.20 beneficiaries covering 10 villages by this
activity. |

Soil and water testing : |
|
|
The KVK has well equipped soil and water
testing laboratory. Where the soil and water samples are analyzed at
reasonable rate of Rs.100/-, and Rs. 75/- respectively. The laboratory is
supported with microprocessor base equipment/ instruments and computer
software for more precise interpretation of results. Every soil sample is
analyzed for eight parameters such as pH, Electric conductivity, Organic
carbon, Available Nitrogen, Available Phosphorus, Available Potassium,
Exchangeable Sodium, Calcium, Magnesium content. |

Supply of Vermiculture : |
|
|
The KVK has established Vermiculture Unit
having different species of earthworm viz. Eicenia foetida and Eudrillus
uginae are reared. The culture @ of Rs. 400 per Kg. is available at KVK farm
one month prior booking. |

|
|
|
KVK supplies planting material of different
fruit and vegetable crops as per the demand of farmer and demand should
be well in advance at least one month |
